I’m one of those people who do Intermittent Fasting (IF). It’s this diet where you only eat during a certain window of time each day. People love it because they think it helps with weight loss and keeps their metabolism in check.

But hold up — a recent study is raising some serious red flags about its impact on heart health.

Researchers looked at data from over 14,000 adults and found that those who stuck to an 8-hour eating window had a whopping 91% higher risk of dying from heart problems.

The study, conducted by a team of researchers analyzed data from adults aged 20 to 80 years old who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2009 to 2018.

Participants reported their dietary patterns, including the timing of their meals and snacks.

The findings revealed a stark association between an 8-hour eating window and cardiovascular mortality. Participants who adhered to this eating pattern had a significantly higher risk of cardiovascular death compared to those with more extended eating durations.

These findings challenge the prevailing notion that Intermittent Fasting is universally beneficial for health.

While it’s been touted for its potential to regulate metabolism and promote weight loss, this study suggests that such benefits may come at a cost to cardiovascular health.

More research is needed to better understand the long-term effects of Intermittent Fasting on cardiovascular outcomes.

Future studies should explore how factors such as meal timing, duration of fasting periods, and overall dietary quality influence cardiovascular health to inform evidence-based dietary recommendations.

Rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach, individuals should prioritize their unique metabolic needs, preferences, and health goals.

Consulting with your doctor so you can be provided with valuable guidance in your dietary choices, especially as it pertains to your cardiovascular health.
